ARA has two basic principles - direct democracy and anti-racism. Direct democracy is the belief that every one of us, every ordinary person, can and must make all the most important decisions that affect our lives. We do not need managers, professionals, or intellectuals of any kind to run our lives. Anti-racism is the struggle against not only individual racism, but even against the systematic racism of white supremacy and its current manifestations. In the past, many people have fought and died for these principles, including Malcolm X, SNCC, the League of Revolutionary Black Workers, and many others. It is in this tradition that we continue our work
and struggle today.
